Central Missouri Honor Flight
This year we have partnered with the Central Miss0uri Honor Flight as one of our featured charities. This group was created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. The group transports our heroes from throughout Central Missouri to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials at no cost to them. Since their inception in 2009, they have transported over 2,325 veterans to Washington on 37 flights. Top priority is given to senior veterans – WWII survivors, along with other veterans of Korea and Vietnam who may be terminally ill. They are a totally volunteer organization and are funded by donations from individuals, organizations and businesses who wish to see our aging veterans honored before it is too late.
Of all the wars in recent memory, it was WWII that truly threatened our very existence as a nation and free society. Now, with more than 640 WWII veterans dying each day, time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. Central Missouri Honor Flight will do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help them travel at no cost. Medical and mobility issues are no problem. They travel with doctors, nurses, paramedics and younger veterans who serve as personal guardians to our honored guests. They also travel with a “large fleet” of wheelchairs for those veterans who require wheelchairs or may need one as they tire. They complete the trip in one day so our veterans do not have to spend the night in Washington.

The Blue Goose of Mid-Missouri has again partnered with law professor Angela Drake and students at the University of Missouri School of Law Veterans Clinic as one of our featured charities. The Clinic helps U.S. Veterans and their families secure disability benefits at each step of the process. Law Students (under the supervisor of Professor Drake) work on cases at the Board of Veterans’ Appeals level and before the Court of Appeals for Veterans’ Claims. The Clinic provides students with the opportunity to work in a law firm atmosphere within the law school, while also serving real client needs.
The work performed by Professor Drake and her students comes at no cost to the Veterans. So when an independent medical or psychological exam is required for the claim, the Clinic must rely on doctors willing to donate their time or they must rely on donations to cover these expenses. Both of these are limited. The Blue Goose of Mid-Missouri has pledged to work with the Clinic to help connect local doctors to this need and to raise money to help fund this honorable work.
The Clinic was recently featured on the cover of the MU School of Law’s Alumni Magazine, “Transcript”. Click the image to the right to read the article.
